Sacred Music Florida's 3rd Annual Competition

Composition Competition guidelines 


Participants in this category must submit their original composition online to SacredMusicFlorida@gmail.com
Computer generated scores preferred. If submitting a hand-written composition it must be neat and completely legible. 
A video performance of your composition is also required. 
All compositions and videos much be submitted to SacredMusicFlorida@gmail.com by May 1, 2018.
This portion of the composition will be adjudicated before the competition in Orlando. Finalists will be notified by email on or before May 20th.
The winner will have the opportunity to perform at the Awards Ceremony at the Competition at the Gaylord Palms Resort.

​​​​VOCAL SOLO - Classical
​This category includes traditional, classical repertoire including but not limited to:

  • Art songs
  • Operatic arias
  • Hymn or hymn arrangement
  • Spiritual

Voice types: Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass

Memorization is required.

You may perform as many pieces as you wish, with performance time not to exceed 4 minutes.

​Original score must be provided to the adjudicator.

Choir Competition Guidelines


  • Choirs must perform  works in contrasting styles. Director's choice of repertoire that will best show your choir's talent.
  • A piano will be provided
  • Live accompaniment is required
  • Total performance time must be less than 15 minutes.
  • A score must be provided to the judges.

Our goal at Sacred Music Florida is to provide you the freedom to perform the works that will best showcase your talents or those of your group. You will not find pages of requirements, but only minimal parameters so that you may showcase the talent that the Lord gave you in a way that makes you shine! 

Ensemble Competition Guidelines

Ensembles may be vocal or instrumental with 10 or fewer players/singers.

Ensembles must perform two pieces of contrasting styles. Classic/Traditional or Contemporary Christian Repertoire

Memorization not required.

Total Performance time not to exceed 7 minutes.

INSTRUMENTAL SOLO - Guitar 

Participants in this category perform up to two pieces with performance time not to exceed 4 minutes.
Participant may choose any repertoire that is intended for solo guitar.
Memorization is also required.
Original score must be provided to the adjudicator.


​​​​VOCAL SOLO - Contemporary
​This category includes Praise & Worship and Contemporary Christian repertoire including but not limited to:

Voice types: Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass

Memorization is required.

You may perform as many pieces as you wish, with performance time not to exceed 4 minutes.

​Original score must be provided to the adjudicator.


No original compositions may be performed in this category.

Handbell Competition Guidelines


  • Handbell Solos, duets, ensembles, choirs
  • Any handbell repertoire may be performed
  • You may perform up to 7 minutes of music
  • You will be sent setup instructions when you register. 

Orchestra/Band Guidelines

Orchestras, bands and choirs must perform 2-3 works in contrasting styles. Director may choose  repertoire that will showcase your group's best qualities. Performance time not to exceed 15 minutes. A score must be provided to the judges. 



PIANO SOLO 

This category includes all of the following

  • Classical repertoire
  • Pieces from method books 
  • Hymn or hymn arrangement
  • Gospel
  • ​Contemporary Christian
  • Praise/Worship


Participants may perform up to two pieces with total performance time not to exceed 4 minutes for Beginner/Advanced Beginner/Novice levels and 6 minutes for Prizewinner and above.

Memorization is required.
Original score must be provided to the adjudicator.


No original compositions may be performed in this category.



INSTRUMENTAL SOLO - WOODWIND, BRASS, STRINGS, PERCUSSION

Participants in this category perform up to two pieces with performance time not to exceed  4 minutes.
Classical & Sacred Repertoire with  live accompaniment preferred.
Memorization is also required.
Original score must be provided to the adjudicator.
